Deep Sea
Fishing Equipment There are two basic types of gear that are utilized for offshore, saltwater sportfishing: the hardware that is physically attached to the boat itself (outriggers, for example, and the gear that is part of the handheld items, such as the rod, reel, linelures). |
| When you look at the boat' s hardware, you first see the long, tall outriggers on either side of the craft. From these dangle the long lines that are used when you are trolling conventionally. Also aboard are downriggers, wich use weight to keep the lines deeper than the flat lines, in order to fish at several depths simultaneously. |

Rods and reels vary in many ways, but brand names such as Penn International and cannot be topped. Basically, the bigger the fish, the heavier the rod and bigger the reel. A lightweight rig is used to fish for live bait in the occasion calls for live bait, as in a feeding frenzy. |
